Instagram: How to make your Recap on Reels
Thanks to Instagram Recap, you can now look back on some of your most amazing moments of the year. This feature allows s to review everything they have shared on their Instagram Stories and share top 10 highlights from Stories.
It’s “a way to reflect and celebrate ahead of the new year,” Instagram said. The social media company said Recap is meant to be “a reminder of all the memories and moments that made the year”, giving s the opportunity to look back on memories big and small.
The feature shows what Instagram considers your best Stories of the year, although you can add or delete other Stories of your choosing before publishing.
How to use Recap on Instagram Reels?
Instagram Recap is very simple to use, but requires that you have shared at least 3 Stories in the last 12 months or that the Stories Archive is turned on.
To open the resource, tap the home button and you’ll see the resource appear at the top of your feed.
You’ll see a message in your Instagram feed when you open the app, inviting you to view your Retrospective. Tap the “View Retrospective” button and you’ll see the top ten Stories highlights curated by Instagram, which you can share in your own Stories.
Before sharing it, you can choose to add or remove stories, allowing you to remove or add specific memories that were important to you.
Reels Recap editing option does not appear. What to do?
If you can’t see the icon to start the Retrospective, chances are you already dismissed the message to edit it the first time it appeared. But, no need to worry that it is still possible to use the feature from a template already available on Instagram.
To use an already available template, enter the Instagram profile and select the Reels tab.
After exploring the tab, select the retrospective template you want, open the video and click “Use Template”.
Now just click “Add media” to choose the photos and videos you want to use.
Finally, select the photos in your gallery and click on the arrow in the lower right corner to advance. Ready! Your Reels will be set up exactly like the chosen model. But, it’s important to that this model will only define the background audio of your Reels. The media that will appear throughout the video are up to you, okay?

What will I see in the Reels Recap?
As soon as you unlock the feature, Instagram automatically fills in some photos and videos you’ve shared to your over the year.
What if I don’t like the photos and videos that Instagram chose?
If you think Instagram didn’t pick your best highlights, you can edit them. To remove the photos you don’t want, press and hold the Stories you want to delete until the trash icon appears. Then click the plus sign button to see more options you can add to your Recap.
Once you’ve organized your list exactly how you want it, Instagram gives you the option to share your Recap with your followers.
How many photos can I include?
Don’t get carried away because Instagram will only let you choose up to 10 photos to include in your Recap. Choose wisely! Oh, and if you opt for an Instagram profile model, it’s important to pay attention to the photo limit.
Why does this feature sound so familiar to me?
While Instagram Recap is new to the app, it’s not new to social media. This feature is quite similar to Snapchat‘s Year Review and Spotify Wrapped.
Spotify Wrapped lets you see which songs you’ve been listening to the most over the past year, and Snapchat’s Year Breakdown shows you the content you’ve created in the app over the last 12 months. The feature also gives you a chance to share those memories with your friends.
However, if you’re not that keen on using Instagram Retrospective, you can always use apps like Top Nine or Best Nine which work in tandem with the social media site. These apps find your most liked photos and put them into a collage that you can share on your Instagram .
Should I use Reels Recap?
The choice is yours, but if you love sharing your life with your friends on social media and you’re tired of constantly creating your own holiday photo galleries, then this feature is perfect for you.
